Fynbos Flower Fields
Surface Pattern & Product Design
2019
The Fynbos Flower Fields collection includes a limited edition signed art print of the flower collage, and a repeat pattern, which has been used on a small range of homeware products that was available from selected stockists.
The fine art print is a monochromatic photographic collage of a collection of some of the most beautiful and interesting fynbos flowers found in and around the mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa. I created the collage for the fine art print, and I created the pattern to compliment the print.
Where I live in Cape Town, I am incredibly lucky to have Table Mountain sitting literally outside my back door, and I am always inspired by all the beautiful colourful flowers that I see at different times of the year on my many walks around the area. Unfortunately a lot of these flowers are too thick to collect and press, so I have created my own “digital” version of a pressed flower artwork using a collection of photographs which I have taken on my various walks.
Fynbos is famous not only for its diversity and unusual composition of its plant species but also for the sheer beauty of many of its wildflowers. Long recognised as the smallest of the six floral kingdoms of the world, this region is now more properly known as the Cape Floristic Region and is home to one of the world’s richest floras. Two thirds of these species of flowering plants are found nowhere else on Earth.
The surface pattern is available in 3 colour ways and the full product range included fabric, wallpaper, placemat/pot stands, trays, coasters and greeting cards.
